Casino – The Glitz and Glamour of Gambling

Casino

Whether they’re trying to win big at the tables or just try their luck on the slot machines, casino patrons are, on the surface, an interesting group of people. They strut their stuff, talk up the latest trends and generally enjoy themselves, even when they lose. It’s a fun place to be, full of flashy decor and upbeat music.

While a casino can have many amenities like restaurants, shopping centers, musical shows and more to draw in customers, the real money is made through the games of chance. Slot machines, poker, blackjack, roulette and other games of chance provide the billions in revenue casinos rake in every year.

Movies have shown us the glitz and glamour of casino life, but also the dark side that includes corruption and crime. In fact, no other film has done a better job of showing this than Casino, the 1992 thriller from director Martin Scorsese that won him an Oscar for best picture and earned critical acclaim for its cast’s performances, particularly Robert De Niro as mob boss Don Santoro and Sharon Stone as blonde hustler Ginger McKenna.

The film is a riveting look at the gambling industry and how the bad guys try to control it, as well as how the good guys fight back. It’s a true classic, and one that has stood the test of time for more than three decades. Its influence has been felt by countless other films and is still being cited today.
